Biodiversity - the case for action

(C) English Nature

Current thinking on sustainable development and on the conservation of natural habitats and wildlife means that minerals industries are actively considering their own contributions to the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.

Mineral extraction impact on the environment can be made positive and the greatest benefits for wildlife secured if actions taken are consistent with a range of environmental objectives.

This does not mean an extra set of rules for the industry, or further costs imposed, or, in effect, more work.

Rather, it requires an appreciation of the wider principles and objectives in conservation, and the application of that appreciation.
